Scaredy-Custard Animals Islam Nuclear

Green Man | 12.05.2006 07:50 | Analysis | Repression

The media and its weponry in the courts are using state violence against the public. Our opinions are suppressed - religion - animal rights - technology - the state uses force to achieve its aims and we pay for them.

I am baffled by the news last night that animal rights protestors [extremists if you prefer], have been jailed for twelve years. If I remember rightly the bloke who put a bomb under a scientists car in Bristol some years back didn’t get that much. And what have these evil people done to deserve this? ‘Grave Robbers’ – spells out the big red banner across the BBC news bulletin – is that it? “This is the worst thing that could happen to anyone.” Says the daughter of the disinterred woman ; I can think of a few things I’d rather happen than that. And then they poured paintstripper on peoples cars, threw bricks at their windows and sent nasty threatening letters. Actually I think all of these things have happened to me at some point in my life in some form or other – but TWELVE YEARS!? Such offenses would be dealt with in other circumstances by an ASBO. I am not kidding – how do they get away with it? The BBC report ends with the chilling warning to those involved in the anti-HLS protests to reconsider their ways – or else!

Anyway I am sure others will have come to the same conclusions as me – no need to go into all the rhetoric about terrorism and the pillars of civilisation and science. No coincidence that the other ‘news’ on last night was about the fatal flaws in the system which allowed the london bombers to slip through the police net. No mention of the War which caused them to commit these atrocities. The point being that anyone who wants to use the media to their own ends to subvert the clean message of the state is severely dealt with. Which brings me to the subject of Nuclear Power. I just re-watched a report on channel four with an interview by the chief of EDF, Frances’ state owned nuclear giant;

 http://www.channel4.com/news/special-reports/special-reports-storypage.jsp?id=2164

and was struck by the phrase ‘once the decision has been made to build nuclear power stations in Britain EDF will join in the push to “convert public opinion”. So when you consider the story in the guardian which details plans to spend £650 Bn. On a European grid system ;
 http://business.guardian.co.uk/economicdispatch/story/0,,1710931,00.html

you begin to wonder what all this talk about a new phase of nuclear expansion is about. I think the answer is dirty money. And while I’m on the subject – another couple of jokes in the paper about house prices. Firstly a BBC report about the new housing minister [forgotten her name] – which ends with the joke – “it seems that people are starting to think that the unusually high property prices are now becoming a problem”. And then a headline in the papers “ chief of Bank of England says that house prices are remarkably high.” HA HA HA – cheers mate!

Fucking corporate scum media reporting that they were jailed for grave robbing-wrong-they were only charged with conspiracy to blackmail. I'd rather have a beer with the brave animal liberators than some sick freak who breeds animals who will be tortured to death to make fat profits for the pharmaceuticals wankers.

GP-Totalily Agree

I totalily agree with you GP,the plea and charge is "conspiracy to blackmail" which is'nt even a charge of "blackmail",and usually if anyone else but the police,use the word "conspiracy" in daily life there ridiculed as a "conspiracy theorist".It seems to me the corprate media and the state muscle ,the police, are working in tandem to change a plea and charge of "conspiracy to blackmail" to "corpse stealing" thus justifying the harsh 12yr prison sentence,but if, like the corprate media and the police are to be believed that the FOUR pleaded and were charged guilty for the grave robbery,then why is'nt the plea and charge not "robbery" which is a more a serious crime,then the vague "conspiracy to blackmail" which just implies planning or thinking about blackmailing,but not doing it.

The Stories of "animal rights extremism" "letters"by the corprate media just days before the sentence,and the repetition of the same(newchurch story) story around atleast 20times or more when you consider the news media is on 4times a day ,and the visual and verbal tongue used by the corprate media had all the implicitness that this was a murder case.

A another corprate media called "animal rights extremist" got 5yrs for just phone calls to industries involved in animal cruelty,while another women "animal rights extremist" got 6yrs later reduced to 5yrs,for once again "conspiracy to cause criminal damage",you can see quite clearly that the state police and state media work in tandem to crush,economicly effective campaigns and activists,and you can also see quite clearly that the same "crime" of "conspiracy" this or "conspiracy" that would'nt be applied to nonactivist individuals or groups,but if they did,would'nt get a conviction in court.

two wrongs?

I just want to express a voice of moderation - I think that animal experimentation is cruel and unjustified, but, so is resorting to intimidating, violent and threatening tactics, and emotional trauma. How can an arguement be won, if those arguing it can be protrayed (by the corporate media) as heartless. You can't say you disagree with torture and then commit torture.
Since when did non violent direct action mean violence by proxy?
Pacifism and love for every being in the world should be at the heart of everything we do, even to our worst enemies.
I am not a Christian - or of any 'faith' - but I think those who protest on the 'terrorist' end of the animal rights 'war' need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask if anger has ever solved anything.
Two wrongs don't make anything right.
