Sat 10th June 7pm till late... Benefit dinner, bands, DJ's

Benefit dinner will be served at 7pm, followed by a short film about Jeff ‘Free’ Luers, then bands including ‘The Unpleasants’ and ‘7 hertz’ (tbc) and DJ’s till late. There will be books and info availble throughout the night.

When Jeff “Free” Luers was sentenced in 2001 to over 22 years for vandalizing SUVs, many felt his sentence was an exception or anomaly. Now almost all U.S eco-prisoners are facing similar sentences and the sentences prisoners face are only climbing higher...

The term 'Green Scare' has been widely used to describe an early 2006 sweep of arrests, convictions and grand jury indictments of alleged Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front activists on charges relating to acts of property damage, conspiracy, arson and use of destructive devices in the US..

In response to this repression there has been a call for a weekend of solidarity and resistance against this ‘green scare’. Here in Leeds we hope to raise money for the accused defence funds and provide information and inspriration.

“So we have a choice, we can run and hide or fight back. If we give the state an inch, it will certainly take a mile, therefore we must stand firm in the face of repression. Repression is being meted out precisely because the social situation is becoming more precarious and because the types of actions for which the defendants are accused are dangerous to the state. So solidarity is not simply
raising money for legal defense and pleading to the state for leniency. Instead it is an attack on power, and choosing to attack is not only refusing to bow down, but also contributing to the wider atmosphere of social combativity. In many countries a simple slogan abounds: solidarity is a weapon. Let us put it into
practice.” - A Murder of Crows #1
