On Sunday May 14th there will be a vigil in Cornmarket from 8-9pm to commemorate the 58th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (Arabic for Catastrophe)

The Nakba witnessed the destruction of over 500 Palestinian villages, the killing of 13,000 Palestinians, and the expulsion of 750,000 Palestinians from their homes and lands between 1947 and 1949.
During the vigil the names of the destroyed villages will be read out, as candles are lit for each village and placed on a large map of Palestine. Participants from Oxford's Arab Community will be joined by members of both Universities and Town residents. Anyone who also wishes to remember the Nakba, the people who died and the villages destroyed, as well as draw attention to the dispossesion of the Palestinians is welcome to join the vigil.
