Several hundred people paraded though the streets of Dover, Kent early this afternoon (Sat) to protest at the resumption of Live Animal Exports. (plod, who were out in erm.. force to hem the jolly grannies and cuddly ALF types in, will no doubt divide by 5).
Pics will hopefully follow in later postings....
Early at the initial rally , several speakers roundly lambasted Blair's decision to lift the ban including erm.. Boris Johnson's Dad !. Vegan, veggie flyers and books were avaiable as were luvverly veggie food and tea.
This weeks Schnews was given out by yourstruly, yer on the spot local Schnewshound, along with flyers for forthcoming attractions such as Palestine demo and the very luvverly 25th Anarchist bookfair (Oct).
The noisy demo wended its way from the seafront via Market Sq town centre, Pencester Rd (bus Station) and back to the eastern Docks entrance. Dovorian's, who rarely get to see such things up close, looked somewhat bemused but many were supportive. The weather though initially dry turned wet but did not dampen spirits as many a colourful brolly was produced to complement the purple flags, black flags and even a gay rainbow flag (yourstruly again), and the even greater number of banners (from various groups and individual ones) calling for a complete ban and even many loud verbal calls and chants for the same.
On arrival at the docks, a make shift sambatista crew drummed the message home to help the chanting along whilst several trucks and cars tooted in agreement.
Far as I know, there was no trouble, though I left before the 'official' end of demo.
