The Bristol Social Forum was launched on 30th April 2005. In that time our egroup has grown into a large and successful outlet for activist and community news around Bristol, as well as regionally and Nationally too.

Recent posts have included protests against First Bus (family fares are equivalent to taxi prices!), transport to an international festival in Paris, to the ever popular Bristol Indymedia film nights, providing a platform to a wide range of local activist groups.

BRIEF BACKGROUND:

On 30th April 2005 Bristol activists from diverse political backgrounds organised to launch a Bristol Social Forum. Inspired by the World and European Social Forums, and bonded by the belief in people over profit, local social forums now exist around the world.

The Bristol Social Forum aims to be a place where people can communicate and learn from each other. Its purpose is to make links between groups and between individuals, in the belief that getting together is vital for effective campaigning and local action.

The 4th European Social Forum will be taking place in Athens-Greece from the 4th - 7th of May 2006. Tens of thousands of activists participated in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd European Social Forums which took place in Florence (2002), Paris (2003) and London (2004).
