Irish Anarchists Clash With Police During 1916 Commemoration

Irish Anarchist | 17.04.2006 12:40 | Anti-militarism | Repression | World

While the Irish state held it's first military parade in over 36 years in rememberance of the 1916 insurrection against British rule a group of 60 Anarchists marched on a military base just outside dublin.

The march consisted of a small critical mass and about 20 "weapons inspectors" with white overalls and hard hats.

Attempts were made to push through police lines to enter the base and a charge was made at the fence towards the back of the base.

Throughout the day policing was heavy handed and brutal with fists used instead of batons and army cadets charging the fence from inside to intimidate the crowd (who chanted "we're opposed to US might, come out here and fucking fight").
