Israeli Repression in Palestine Intensifies as the Borders are Re-drawn

Devlish May | 15.04.2006 14:35 | Anti-militarism | Palestine | Repression

Since the election of the Kadima party, violence and incursions against the Palestinian population has intensified. A report prepared and published by the Palestinian National Information Centre on the Israeli violations in the period between 4 and 10 April, 2006, revealed that Israeli soldiers shelled Palestinian homes, killing 19, while 7 residents were extra-judicially assassinated.

The Israeli violations also include repeated invasions of Palestinian cities, villages and refugee camps, with checkpoint closures isolating the Palestinian territories from each other.

According to the above-mentioned report, 12 residents were killed by military fire and shells, 7 were assassinated, 95 injured and 125 arrested in one week. Soldiers carried out 972 violations against Palestinians in the same period, which included 132 seiges and 37 invasions, during which 125 residents were arrested.

Troops invaded cities, villages and refugee camps across the entire occupied West Bank 182 times, and installed temporary checkpoints 110 times. Roads and Crossings were closed 298 times. Dozens of residents were not allowed to leave the country through international crossings. In addition, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian residents 11 times during that period.

The total number of violations carried out by Israeli soldiers and settlers since the declaration of cease fire on 8 February, 2005, until 10 April, 2006, arrived at 33711, including 3337 shootings, killing 225 and injuring 1,655.

So stop firing fucking kassams from Gaza at random civilian targets in Israel. No mention of that in your "article". Funny that. Even if your missiles are crap, a response by the IDF is necessary of course.
And why focus on 2 inadvertant child victims of the Israeli retalliation without even mentioning that 12 rocket-firing terrorists were also killed or that on one case one of the terrorists had taken his (now dead) child to the firing site with him?

Think about this!

How about Israel ending it's illegal, racist occupation???

How about if Israel stopped stealing land???

How about if Israel stopped stealing water???

How about if Israel respected international law???

Don't you think that would make a difference?

Hmm

This is a horribly unnecessary war which has claimed far too many civilian victims on BOTH sides. However, I am sick of the anti-Israeli stance this site seems to have taken. I thought discrimination was discouraged?

bias reporting is wrong!

20.04.2006 16:57

i think that the comment above is correct, the are attacks from both sides but it seems that all that this article is saying that isreal have been destroying and attacking plaistinians but as already mentioned this article and many others say nothing about the suicide bombers, the missiles and other attacks made by palistineians, both are wrtong and should be stopped but another thing that should be stoped is bias reporting. (also i dont care if i cant spell !)

To what lengths would Palestinians have to go in order to earn themselves a bad press? Elect a government of terrorists committed to the destruction of a neighbouring state and the genocide of its citizens? Target civilians in pizza parlours, aboard buses? Target (not maim and kill by accident, but *target*) Holocaust survivors at a Passover seder? Employ children as human shields and paste their images throughout Palestine when they happen to become caught in crossfire? Rape women and convince them that there exists no other means of regaining their lost honour than through committing suicide terror attacks?

Egypt and Jordan occupied Palestinian land for the better part of thirty years. Israel seized the West Bank and Gaza in wars launched by its Arab neighbours.

the need for unbalanced reporting

a few different thoughts:

my current work is related to the middle east and i find it very useful indeed that people publish news articles like this one, rather than censoring everything in line with some impossible notion of balance.

if you are unhappy with what is published on indymedia then comment, but if you are unhappy with what is /not/ published on indymedia, then publish it yourself.

there is an issue of the feature articles though, and perhaps it would be good if the Indymedia UK collective were explicit about the way they decide which articles to promote. In the halcyon days of Indymedia's birth it was good enough to say that editing was kept to the minimal possible and done with good intentions. as time goes by though, Indymedia is becoming more and more established and therefore the pressure to be more accountable is natural.

finally should this article be on the UK featured articles. I have never heard anything to say that the UK site is exclusively for UK news, but perhaps this is part of the reason it might seem dubious.

p.s. respect and praise to the UK Indymedia collective for maintaining and growing UK Indymedia.

Wah wah, the poor Palestinians

Who really cares about this? Why are you so concerned about the Palestinians? Do you honestly think they would care if you were killed like this? Hell no, they'd be celebrating in the streets. Just leave them to it. Their war, their problem.

Sign Petition to Re-instate EU and US aid to Palestine

CALL TO ACTION: RE-INSTATE EU AND US AID TO PALESTINE
Please join thousands in signing a petition that may encourage the international community to head off the serious humanitarian crises in Palestine from getting even worse. Re-instate EU and US aid to Palestine
 http://www.petitiononline.com/JfJfP/petition.html
To: The European Union, the US congress and the Israeli Government
We condemn the actions taken by the US, the EU and Israel to exert penal
economic pressure upon the Palestinian people. The withdrawal of
economic aid by the US and the EU and the criminal withholding of
internationally agreed custom duties by Israel will lead to widespread
suffering, starvation and death among the Palestinian people, with the
weakest, children and the elderly, dying first.

This aid is desperately needed because the Israeli government
systematically pursues policies that prevent economic self sufficiency
on the west bank and in Gaza. these policies include:

*Use of the separation wall to cut off Palestinian farmers from their
fields
*Import of labourers from East Asia rather than employ Palestinians
*Placing deliberate obstacles in the path of Palestinian exports of
agricultural produce and handicrafts
*Use of the Israeli banking system to block remittances from
Palestinians working abroad
*Disruption of Palestinian school and Higher Education
*Withholding of customs duties due to the Palestinian Authority under
international law

These criminal policies are linked to demands that Hamas recognize the
state of Israel, such recognition would be the end of a negotiating
process, it should not be a precondition. The Palestinian people have
affronted the US, the EU and Israel by electing a Hamas government. It
was not made clear, when they insisted on democratic elections in
Palestine, that these they should only be held if the result were acceptable to Israel.

We further note that Hamas is maintaining a ceasefire and that Israel is
not and that Israel is killing far more Palestinians than vice-versa but
this does not impede massive US aid to Israel nor favourable trade
agreements between the EU and Israel.

In the name of justice and to end these economic crimes and murders we
demand:

The immediate restoration of aid by the US and the EU
The end of Israel's economic blockade
The end of US military aid to Israel
The end of exceptional favourable EU agreements with Israel.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
