Student Media Activists Looking for Internships

Andy Ope | 14.04.2006 19:14 | London

A group of US college students majoring in digital video production will be in London for 6 weeks looking to work with social justice organizations to help them make media about current issues.

Hi UK Activists,

I am going to be teaching in London for 6 weeks this summer (May 5-June 15) with a group of media production students from Florida State University.

The program is called the "London Documentary Experience" and consists of 2 classes - a theory and research class and a video production class. Students may also do an internship with a media outlet or the media arm of an activist group. My goal is to connect the students with environmental/social justice/activist groups in London as well as documentary filmmakers and production houses for the first class. Then, I would like the students to draw on those connections to shoot a short documentary grounded in the work of that organization.

If you are a grassroots orgainzation or social justice group who could use a media person to help develop video on a given issue, please contact me. My students will have field cameras and audio kits to use and they come with a strong set of production skills.

I research media activism and environmental issues and try to bring my students into this research. You can see more about my work on my website listed below.

Thanks for your help,

Andy
