The Environment Agency (EA) are today accused of failing in their duty to protect the public as they are knowingly allowing Eastcroft Incinerator in Nottingham to continue to operate, despite it emitting levels of cancer causing poisons many times higher than allowed under their operating licence.

The EA this week published a report on tests carried out in 2003, when they continuous sampling dioxins released into the atmosphere from the plant, in the centre of Nottingham adjacent to mass population.

Under the normal requirements, many of the toxic poisons are only measured for a few hours twice a year. The EA however found that during continuous sampling, the dioxin levels were 500% higher than the authorised amount.

Local opposition group NAIL - Nottingham Against Incineration and Landfill demand an explanation as to why the Regulator, who is suppose to protect the public, continue to allow this incinerator to operate, despite 32 previous pollution breaches and massive dioxin breaches known over 3 years ago!

Unfortunately emission levels set by the EA for are there to protect private companies profits, not the publics health.

The authorised levels are what is 'Technically' or 'Economically' achievable by the plant, they are not safe levels. There can never be safe levels for dioxins, classified as the most cancerous substance known to science.

The EA tested two types of continuous monitoring and found dioxin levels 500% higher than current sampling techniques.
