We've already contacted Pudsey police and they said they had visited every signer of the BPP form last week following a complaint by a member of the local Labour Party and did not discover any wrongdoings, no-one had been conned. Pensioner: I was duped into backing BPP candidate

A Leeds pensioner says she was duped into signing a form nominatng a white supremacist as a candidate in forthcoming elections to Leeds City Council.

The pensioner says a canvasser asked her to sign a petition against the closure of a local shopping centre in Bramley in West Leeds. She did so. She says she was horrified to discover later that she had in fact proposed the candidature of an extreme right-winger in the election.

Police have launched an investigation into the allegation.

The candidate is Edmond Morrison, who is standing in Bramley ward in the name of the British People's Party. The British People's Party is so extreme that it has been proscribed by even the far-right British National Party. The British People's Party is the latest manifestation of a fringe fascist group which was known as the White Nationalist Party, which dissolved last year to form the Nationalist Alliance, which then broke up amid internal rifts to become the British People's Party. Morrison is the party's national organiser.

The pensioner, who does not want to be named due to fear of reprisals, has complained to the police about the alleged deception. She said: 'When I was approached I believed I was signing a petition to keep Bramley shopping centre open. I was not asked to support his party. I have complained to the police.'

West Yorkshire police confirmed it had received a complaint. 'An allegation has been made and we are investigating,' said a spokeswoman.

Morrison claimed he and his assistant made it clear to everyone who signed that they were nominating a BPP candidate. He said: 'If this old lady has been confused that is unforyunate, but the next day following the signatures we put a leaflet through everyone's letterbox explaining what the party is and what it stands for.'

Eddy Morrison, who gives his address as Norman Towers, West Park, Leeds, has been active in far-right politics in Yorkshire for more than thirty years. In the 1970s he headed a group calling itself the National Democratic Freedom Movement. When it folded, Morrison later emerged leading the British National Party (White Power) standing candidates for the old West Yorkshire County Council.

So they even hassle old people now? I read a few posts by other nazis that his claims to be a founding member of the BNP are actually untrue. If I can find it there was also a quote somewhere from their "spiritual leader" John Tyndall that stated quite clearly his distaste for Morrison and it appears that Tyndall was always BNP and apart from one speech he made just before his death last year in his home town of Brighton that ironically was not attended by Morrison he had no connection whatsoever with the British Peoples Party in any shape or form. It seems this is a major factor in the amount of abuse they are getting from their fellow nationalists and although I hate to say it, for once all the accusations made by the racist factions seem to be correct and the amount can only reflect the feelings held by many within their own circles. To read your article on them duping old people in the Street is provebally known as the icing on the cake where the allegations of their stupidity come into question.

I Edmond Morrison have now resigned my part in the BPP. I have lied to so many people in the years I have claimed to be a Nationalist. I have sold stories to the Left, and have created disruption between any parties I have been involved with ie: WNP, NA, BPP etc etc list is endless.
I admit I am not a friend of John Tyndall and yes JT has always hated me, JT knew the kind of idiot I am, and Im pals with Ainsley Harriet.
I never formed or assisted to form the NF or the BNP.
