TV Turnoff Preparations

A few people are arranging some stuff for TV turnoff week at the end
of the month. We'll be meeting in the Allsorts Psychic Cafe,
Carlton Place (off Bedford Place, opposite the Cricketers pub) on
Thursday 13th April from 6.30pm to chat about plans over some tea
and cake.
Current ideas include a picnic on the common on Saturday 21st April
to kick off the week, a sculpture/installation using old busted TVs,
street performance involving dressing up as spies and handing out a
list of 'TV alternative activities' for the week - all in the spirit
of reclaiming our time and entertainment!

TV Turnoff week in Southampton - update
19.04.2006 16:00
Details of picnic - application/msword 179K
We will meet on the South side of the common from 1pm, under the trees below the boating lake (in between the boating lake and the paddling pool). There will be signs and a map from the car park by the cowherds (south end of the common).
Everyone is welcome - the aim is to launch 'TV turnoff week' (24th – 30th April) by getting together in a communal space and exploring the alternatives to sitting in front of the box. Bring along instruments, kites, toys, stories, friends, family, artwork - whatever - bring some veggie food to share & a bag to take rubbish home in! Please, no amplified music or alcohol.
After the picnic some of us are headed into town dressed up as spies, if you want to join us then bring along a 'spy' costume! It's all very unplanned and should be lots of fun, as well as encouraging people to 'turn off the TV and do something less boring instead!'.
Please just turn up, if you get lost or need information, please email jani.franck@yahoo.co.uk, I can also send you a map if you need one.
