Warning signs in Venezuela of another coup d'etat like that of 2002.

Alert to the media campaign

What 24 hours ago was a feeling of horror for the wretched crime of the siblings Fadul and Miguel Rivas. Has been converted by the privately owned media in a motive to promote anarchy and try to reactivate street protests against the government of Hugo Chavez Frias. All the opinion programmes of the four major television channels of the country dedicated this Wednesday 5th of April editorial spaces to openly call people to protest in the streets of Caracas against "insecurity" and other political issues of the
opposition against the government.

Every guest without exception analyzed from different point of views the situation and as a good theatre plot they call to demonstrate against what they term the responsibility of the government on the assassinations. Some even justified foreign interventions in the country to "guaranty security".
As it was shown on the programme 'La Hojilla' (the razor) this same Wednesday 5th of April. The manifestations were covered from the early hours of the morning and although not massive on size they obstructed the traffic and generated chaos in the city of Caracas.

Immediately a political party occupied, with the support of TV crews, the Urdaneta Avenue opposite the Ministry of Interior to demand justice in a premature electoral campaign. The cheekiness is so that their TV advert was changed into a call to street protests against Chavez.

The sensibility the case generates because of the suffering of the family of the victims has been exploited to a maximum degree by the TV news.
Globovision showed 15 testimonies by women and 7 by men, (never has there been so much space given to women's opinion). With clearly political-partisan messages as "Renounce Minister", "I don't want to vote", "President go away", "In the country there has been more death than in the Iraq war" "We have to stop education", "Go out to protest", "The authorities did not take care of the kidnap".

We share the pain of the family of the victims but we repudiate the media intentions of manipulating and using the citizens to destabilise the country in a very similar plot to the one used in the year 2002.

We reject the use of sensationalism by some printed media which published photographs of the dead bodies of the victims. In a clear intention to manipulate and exacerbate a country that after 4 years of the fatal acts of the 2002 coup d'etat has managed to recover from the economic and social consequences of this irrational way of dissenting political differences, playing the game of foreign interests that aspire to repeat in Venezuela the interventionist formula applied in the world for their own economic benefit.
