Do something about the BNP in Heanor

John Shemeld | 02.04.2006 20:03 | Repression | Social Struggles

In February, the BNP came second in the Amber Valley council by-election in Heanor and Loscoe (see previous items on IndyMedia). They will undoubtedly stand again in the election in May.

On Saturday, 25 March a group of about a dozen of us, from Nottingham and Derby, went over to leaflet in Heanor against the BNP. We put 1,000 leaflets through 1,000 doors, reaching an estimated 2,000 electors.

We got a good reception, and no one encountered any hostility whatever.

We aim to repeat the exercise on Saturday, 15 April [was 22 April]. We'll meet between the Council House Lions in the Market Square at 2:00pm, and catch a bus over to Heanor.

If you want to do something about the BNP in Amber Valley, please come and help.

AMMENDMENT:

Anti-BNP Leafleting in Heanor: Change of Date.

Firstly, the Unite Against Fascism leafleting against the BNP which was planned for Saturday, 22 April (see above) has been brought forward to this Saturday (15 April).

The arrangements are the same: the Nottingham contingent will meet between the Lions in the Market Square at 2:00pm (on Saturday, 15 April) to catch the bus over to Heanor.

Secondly, we now know that the BNP are standing for 2 Amber Valley Council seats: in Heanor West and Heanor and Loscoe. (Heanor and Loscoe was the ward in which they came second in the by-election in February.)

If we get a decent number of people out on Saturday, we can leaflet most of these two wards.
