BRIAN HAW IS DEFENDING HIS AND EVERONE’S RIGHT TO PROTEST

On Monday 3 April 10am, High Court on the Strand, courtroom 71.

Join us outside and then in court. Bring banners & placards for outside.

As you know, the government, through the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act (SOCPA), has made it illegal to protest in Parliament Square without police authorisation. But Brian Haw’s almost five-year-old demonstration has been exempt so far: in July 2005, Brian challenged the SOCPA in the High Court to prove the law was not retrospective and won his right to continue protesting. The Home Office and the Met Police have appealed this judgement and the case will be heard on Monday.

In defending Brian we defend all of us. Other cases are waiting the outcome of this case including the Wednesday Anti-War Picket & Open Mic coordinated by GWS, which has applied for a Judicial Review to test our and anybody else's legal right to join Brian's demonstration.

Also on Thursday 6 April at 10am Maria Gallastegui, Brian’s right-hand supporter, is appealing against her conviction for demonstrating without authorisation and obstructing arrest at Southwark Crown Court, 1 English Grounds, London SE1 2HU. Join us there to support Maria’s right to support Brian.

Others have also been convicted and are appealing.

We continue to visit and bring food to Brian every Wednesday in Parliament Square between 5.30-7pm, you are most welcome to join us.

We hope to see you there.
