Channel 4 airs Washington fed propaganda against Chavez: call for action

Politica Urgente | 02.04.2006 02:44 | Globalisation | Social Struggles

On March 27, Channel 4 aired a propaganda report on Venezuela aimed at softening up the scene for a future US attack. Action is recommended, before all major corporate media follow the lead.

On March 27, Channel 4 aired a report on Venezuela by Jonhatan Rugman , in which Chavez is depicted as a soon to be dictator and the next Saddam.
The piece has been described by John Pilger as "one of the worst, most distorted pieces of journalism I have ever seen, qualifying as crude propaganda... utter bullshit... a disgrace from beginning to end". Pilger states that the propaganda piece is aimed at softening up the scene for a future US attack and ends his brief analysis stating that "if and when it comes (an attack on Venezuela), the Rugmans will share some of the responsibility".

The timing is just right: Condoleeza Rice has just called for an international alliance to isolate Venezuela, while public opinion in GB is driving away from Blair's neocolonialist agenda and there are growing calls for active solidarity with Venezuelas' political process.
The aim behind the strategy is simple, Goebels gave the lead: repeat a thousand times a lie it will become true as crystal before public opinion.
So far, it's been hard on them to get to the place, but if progressives don't act now, sooner or later all corporate media will follow the lead. By then, it will be too late to stop some more fireworks on your screen - and on innocent people's rooftops.
Action is recommended to condemn the trend behind this despicable propaganda media show and demand apology and reddress.

Government in secret talks about strike against Iran - Sunday Telegraph

A senior Foreign Office source said: "Monday's meeting will set out to address the consequences for Britain in the event of an attack against Iran. The CDS [chiefs of defence staff] will want to know what the impact will be on British interests in Iraq and Afghanistan which both border Iran. The CDS will then brief the Prime Minister and the Cabinet on their conclusions in the next few days.

"If Iran makes another strategic mistake, such as ignoring demands by the UN or future resolutions, then the thinking among the chiefs is that military action could be taken to bring an end to the crisis. The belief in some areas of Whitehall is that an attack is now all but inevitable.

Bush in '08 ?

02.04.2006 12:20

I ignored this Register report yesterday as it was April Fool's, but seemingly it is true, laws are being changed to allow Bush to carry on into a third term. Franklin D. Roosevelt was in his fourth term when he died, and although the constitution was ammeded to prevent this happening again, new 'Doomsday Legislation' permits a handful of legislators to do basically anything in case of say, 'a terrorist attack' or a war.

Scary how this ties in with Blair saying it was a mistake for him to rule out a 4th term.

It's good to be wrong about that, I just won't read the Register from now on. I guess that means it is Jeb Bush next - versus Hilary Clinton ? Is the 'Doomsday Legislation' all false too ?
Oh, and please tell the UK Legislative and Regulatory Reform act is another sick joke.

Nope, that one's for real. And as pointed out in the telegraph (!) i think, the powers in the bill to modify laws by decree will apply to the LARR itself - so all the safeguards put in for the spineless 'liberal' MPs/Lords are meaningless. Its a proper third reich 'enabling act'.

On the plus side, dictatorship makes it clear which side you're on :(

Why channel 4 threw their dummy out of the pram....

(TAKEN FROM NEWSNIGHT WEBSITE)

Another odd thing about journalism is how and why we try to spoil our competitors' work. If the Sun leads on a story the Mirror pretends that story doesn't exist and vice versa. And at our end of the market we do it too.

When Channel 4 News ran an excellent season of programmes live from Iran recently Newsnight ran an Iran special live from Shepherd's Bush on night one to try to pre-empt them.

And when they learned we were planning a season of programmes from Latin America they raced off to Venezuela to try to beat us to a much-coveted interview with the maverick President Chavez. So persistent were their efforts that they got themselves arrested, and apparently annoyed El Presidente so much that he decided to speak out - to Newsnight.
