Isn't May Day on 1st May?

Why is there only what I expect will be a rather worthy but dull Trade Union march actually on May Day? Especially as it falls on a bank holiday monday which would be a good opportunity to do something a little more active and eyecatching.

Why not have your own May Day celebration in Leeds? We don't want Yorkshire's kids coming to Manchester for the day with their silly and immature ideas - we've got enough of them in Manchester already.
