- Michael, your film on the National Security Strategy of 2002, the document that served as the official written basis for the pre-emptive war policy of the White House, came out in May of 2004. What’s happened since then?
Several things have happened worth paying attention to. The first is that we have continued to wage a war in Iraq that has turned parts of that country into the terrorist havens George Bush told us were there before the war but weren’t.
Since the film came out, over a thousand coalition troops have died, and, according to conservative estimates, tens of thousands of Iraqis have been murdered, putting the country on the brink of civil war (or actually in one according to Iraqi former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi).
Along side these awful events, none of the lies that the war was based on have been apologized for, from Bush’s assertion that the war’s purpose is to “uphold the integrity of the United Nations” which he hates and acted against the wishes of, to Jack Straw’s famous line that the “single question” in Iraq is ridding the country of weapons of mass destruction. Really?
Why are British soldiers still fighting then?
Because as we know that question has long been settled.
Another important thing that’s happened is that defense spending all around the world is way up, including places like Russia and China. This tends to happen when the world’s biggest power says that military solutions conceived by it and it alone will settle major world problems. The message of lawlessness is clear to the rest of the world, and they respond the way you would expect. They’ve learned the lesson from Iraq that guns speak louder than words.

Oceans warming, making cooling currents slow just as seismic activity increases globally

Yesterday was a slow day in global volcanic activity with only one earthquake worth a mention in the whole 24 hours. In recent weeks, earthquakes have been frequent, rarely less than 6 examples of 5 on the Richter scale each day. With most occurring right around the Pacific Rim with 7 or more providing a daily tremor tally
. One after another, you could almost see the Satellite pictures shake as one expanse of land after another shook with relayed knock on effects; it was like a topographical Mexican wave rippling across region after region.
Perhaps next, it will South America’s turn, as the shaky tectonic plates rub up against one another from the Asian continent through the oceanic crust toward Chile and end up qwaking Californians.
Locally the best China already rattles frequently no more so than southeast Asia, and central Asia vibrates really taking a pounding, almost in succession, timely, in order, next week perhaps Indonesia.
However, like I say mostly small tremors, too slight to rate a mention. Perhaps building up to a future global shattering earthquake of greater proportion. An event we could not imagine. Leaving a space between the planets closest to the sun looking like a devastated restaurant floor in the aftermath of a Greek party.
The space occupied by planet earth one day strewn with tectonic plates floating in space, a meteorite field waiting for an atmosphere.
Isn't that just where Planet Earth came into being in the beginning? after a big bang of sorts, a cloud of gas, some rocks in space and a convenient sun burning nearby. Could it be that the last four billion years story was creation a global warming occurrence, just a follow through of our present experience?
I doubt if anyone would accept it, as a link between Cyclone Larry, hurricane Rita and Katrina has yet to be established within the realms of an orgy of claimed global warming significant threesomes.
Imagine that! a Cyclone in March, two months early, category 5 and no one finds it worthy of alarm. Howard said he is not looking to blame anything, which is not surprising.
I wonder this early on in the season, why we are bothering with rebuilding.

The Disorientating Express. A train to nowhere

In threads a comment responded to a link that listed recent global disasters. The response listed three minor events from an original list of hundreds. All so that right wing opinion to climate change could be defended.
The reaction to do nothing about climate change is now well established in western nations as they encourage developing nations to create more pollution through assisted globalization. The train has now left the station and we are only along for the ride, so sit down and look out of my window as the world goes by.

HUNGER STRIKE AND WEEK OF ACTIONS TO STOP ANTI-IMMIGRANT BILLS
US IMC 23/3/06 San Francisco Bay Area
Over 50 hunger strikers and organizations have started a seven-day protest in front of the Federal Building in San Francisco on Tuesday, March 21st, 2006.
They are calling for fair and just immigration reform.
They are denouncing Senator Arlen Specter’s bill that designates all undocumented immigrants as aggravated felons, allows for the indefinite detention of non-citizens, and criminalizes day-labor centers, churches, health clinics and all others who serve, help or work with undocumented immigrants.
There will be candlelight vigils at the Federal Building every day through Sunday at 6:00pm.
