Hacktivists Attack Philippine Government Websites

StateBuster | 23.03.2006 03:59 | Repression | Social Struggles | Technology | World

Several Philippine government websites are now subjected to attacks from online hacktivists: the Office of the President, the Police and the Military. The groups responsible were the Justice League of the Internet (JLI), and the Brigada Elektronica. Hacktivists worldwide have supported the action and now the target sites have been having problems.

After the recent repressive actions done by the Philippine State, specifically the warrantless arrests and killings of activists and the arrest and torture of the Sagada 11 (punk rockers who were wrongfully accused of being Maoist rebels), the hacktivists have decided to do the online attack.

According to the JLI's spokesperson, a hacker named Oracle, "This is just the opening salvo of online chaos. If the state will repress us on the streets, we'll do it online!"

Mirror sites have been established worldwide, as support for the electronic sit-in grows locally and internationally. Even the personal site of the developer for the Philippine National Police's website has been transformed to a mirror.
