ETA decalres a permanent ceasefire

Euskadi ta askatasuna to the Basque Country

Euskadi Ta Askatasuna has decided to declare a permanent ceasefire from 24th march 2006 on.

The objective of this decision is to give an impulse to a democratic process in order to build a new framework where the rights of the Basque Country are recognized and where it is ensured that in the future all political options have the possibility of being developed.

At the end of this process, Basque citizens will be able to have a voice and the power to decide their future.

The Spanish and French states have to recognize the result of such a democratic process, without any kind of limitations. The decision that the Basque citizens make about our future has to be respected.

We call upon everyone to act with responsibility after this step that ETA has taken.

We appeal to the Spanish and French authorities to react in a positive way to this new situation, giving up repression.

Finally we call upon Basque citizens in order to get involved in this process and in order to fight for the rights that as a country belong to us.

ETA declares its desire and will for this process to arrive to an end, and therefore achieve a truly democratic scene for the Basque Country, finding a solution for the long conflict and building a justice-based peace.

We reassert our commitment to taking steps in teh ffuture according to this will.

An end to the conflict is possible today and now. This is the hope and desire of Eta.

Basque Country, March of 2006

Euskadi Ta Askatasuna
