Defence gets $600m funding increase

War miniature brendan nelson has cleared the way for decisions to purchase the joint strike fighter and air warfare destroyers worth billions of dollars, after getting a directive for a 3 per cent budget increase.

The Un-australian newspaper says, "The increase - about $600 million a year on war spending, which is expected to reach $20 billion by 2010 - is expected to be announced in the May budget."

But I like the way they say 'is expected'!

Is expected sounds like a foregone conclusion all right! It may have been expected by the guberment and of course the 'senior official sources' that the Un-australian newspaper are in bed together with, but it certainly wasn't expected by the community, surely!

The Un-australian newspaper: "According to 'senior government sources', supplementary budget funding was also likely for some high-tech equipment projects that were experiencing cost increases well beyond the rate of inflation."

Wow! Well beyond the rate of inflation, what about collateral damage?

Defiance plans to spend at least $6 billion on new warships and $12 billion on up to 100 new joint strike fighter aircraft over the next decade over and above social services and welfare spending no doubt!
