This weekend there will be massive demonstrations all over the world against the occupation of Iraq and the theatening noises being made against Iran. Many people doubt the effectiveness of such 'A to B' marches and lobbying, instead prefering direct confrontation with the companies that seek to profit from war and direct action aimed at putting a spanner in the works....
Over 30 arrests have taken place in the last two years as arm manufacture EDO MBM tried to stop protest outside it's factory in Brighton. Two people ended up spending a week on remand in prison for alleged breach of an injunction. under the Protection from Harassment Act,1997.
At a High Court hearing last month, EDO MBM was forced to agreed to dropping the provisions of the temporary injunction which affected any individual who wished to protest against the company.
On the 1st March a 'Victory demonstration' was held outside the EDO factory which makes bomb release mechanisms and components for the Hellfire missile widly used by the US and UK military in their illegal war of agression against Iraq.
This Thursday the rampART free cinema will be screening the EDO double bill, "Injuctivitus" from Schnews films.
Along with other short films about grass roots direct action and civil disobedience against the war machine, you can also watch Abbie Hoffman and the Yippies levitating the Pentagon during the 60's uprising against the US war on Vietnam.
