Artists Against the War are inviting everyone to the readings from Rachel Corrie diaries at London's Parliament Square and Hanover Square W1.

Thursday 16 March

Meet 1pm Parliament Square,
and
5pm at Hanover Square.

Artists Against the War will be reading from Rachel Corrie's words as part of an international day of action against Caterpillar, the company that sells heavy machinery to Israel that is used against Palestinian civilians throughout the Occupied Territories.

Caterpillar bulldozers are consistently used to demolish houses and villages of Palestinian civilians accused of being a 'threat' to the State of Isreal. Rachel Corrie, and american activist working in Palestine, was crushed to dead when standing in the path of a Caterpillar that was about to demolish a Palestinian house in Rafah, Gaza.

There Are No Sides To Peace
Anniversary (Rachel Corrie 1979-2003)

The years pass.
The poems continue.

Words string together
homage to Rachel
songs for Rachel
theatre about Rachel

not only anniversary
and memoriam
but constant
shining and reminder.

We do not forget
who are the peacemakers.
We do not forget
the actions they take
in the name of non violent peaceful struggle.

We do not forget
the injustice and the harsh penalties
towards those who stand unarmed but righteous
against the machines of war and occupation.

So many innocent broken bones and smashed lives!
between those who act and speak out against the violence
and those who perpetuate the violence.

But, through the dark prevailing doom
wrought by bombs and Caterpillars
and weapons of any destruction

hate does not diminish
the life and spirit of
one who acted upon good and peaceful intentions.

Rachel who put her life's conviction
into daily practice
Rachel who moved bravely beyond
a more comfortable life
in order to sustain oppressed lives.

Rachel did not only pray
She became the prayer
the hope of the world

There are no sides to peace.

Corrie and the Nazis

In the US, the Nazis have taken Corrie as one of their own. It's no mistake of course, given the traditional relationship between the "left" the Nazis and the Arabists. (It's also no accident, considering the politics of Corrie's parents) Corrie was a WHITE chick that died of an accident in a war zone, and there were JEWS nearby. A very sexy issue.
