ANOTHER REVOLUTION IN ECUADOR

All regions of Ecuador are uniting this very moment in a major "PARO" (strike/stoppage/blockade) of the whole country against its president Palacio, the Free Trade Agreement with the USA, and the oil company OXY.
Serious confrontations are taking place in many parts of the country, including the capital Quito where student protests have been met with fire arms.
The whole of the Amazon region of Ecuador (5 provinces) are in a state of emergency, as are several smaller towns in the Andes.
The demands of the people vary slightly from region to region, but all have to do with the non-fulfillment of promises made by the national government and a call for a referendum on the FTA that is being negotiated with the USA.
The "ministro de gobierno" (minister of government?) is resigning already and mainstream national news take it to be only a matter of time until the president is ousted, or resigns himself.

The actions today had great influence and importance with blockades of roads in the provinces of Carchi, Imbabura, Pichincha(Cayambe), Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Bolivar, Chimborazo, Cañar, Azuay, Loja and Zamora. Therefore routes north and south on the Pan-American highway are almost impassable and routes to the East are blocked at Paztaza and Zamora. Marches occured in the cities of Latacunga, Ambato, Esmeraldas and Quito. In Pastaza there was an mass occupation of the Interior and in Quito the occupation of the cathedral by some farmers affiliated with the Socal Insurance Farmer (?).
Reports suggest that the people in the eastern provinces of Sucumbios and Orellana have massed and started a massive march of people towards Quito. Additionally their are reports of people being wounded in Cotopaxi by the police and the military but that these security forces are generally afraid of greater intervention and repression.
