Benefit gig for Iraqi workers 10-12th

capt Hook | 07.03.2006 15:03

Ring 07786684025 or 07941848440 on the night for details of the venue.

The IFOU is an anti-occupation, anti-privatisation and politically independent federation of Iraqi oil workers, who are fighting to resist both the corporations and the US/UK occupation forces. It is a non-sectarian federation that aims to unite all oil workers in Iraq, and has also worked to expel oil company bosses who were supporters of Saddam Hussein.

Members of the IFOU face harassment, intimidation, and threats of death on a daily basis, and support from other groups, such as UK activist groups, is critical if independent trade unionism in Iraq is to survive.

I'd rather support the Basra Oil Union than Jam 74/ Faslane as that is an even worthier cause than either of those two but it isn't an option for all of us for various reasons. So if you are in Scotland, know how to jump and spit and fancy a gig then :

Finally- it's a relief to see a group that identifies itself as anti-occupation while at the same time being anti Baath and anti-Saddamite.

It's about time. For so long now a lot of young people wearing Che t-shirts have assumed that Saddamite was great, because the US was after him.
