Report: Hands Off Iran Protests, Glasgow
mcc | 04.03.2006 11:18 | Anti-militarism | World
For the past five Wednesdays there have been Hands Off Iran protests between 5-6pm, Donald Dewar's statue, top of Buchanan St, Glasgow.
The subject of the protests is to make people aware of the growing threat of yet another mindless Anglo-American war, this time against Iran.
Iran is seeking to start up a nuclear energy programme. The west however, without providing any hard evidence are making the claim that Iran are wanting to build a nuclear bomb. This is the usual scaremongering tactics that preceded the illegal war against Iraq, which has devastated that country and has been responsible for hundreds of thousands of Iraqi dead, wounded and traumatized. This while Tony Blair worries how he is going to pay his mortgage, or put his children into the best universities.
Iraq has the second biggest reserves of oil in the world, Iran also has huge reserves of oil. Bush and Blair are addicted to lies, oil and war. You don't have to be a detective to conclude that Iran is the next target in Bush and Blair's insane war for global dominance of the world's resources.
So far there have been a good response to the protest with many new people showing up and offering support. People have even traveled from outside Glasgow to attend he events. There have been up to at least 30 new faces, and that is not including those passersby that have put there names to the email list.
