Shepton Mallet Tesco - Activists Back on Site!

rowan | 02.03.2006 12:36 | London

Activists are back on site today and up the trees. They are asking for anyone who can to get there ASAP.

The trees used for the last camp were destroyed after the eviction, but there's around 180 still waiting to be saved.

More news as it comes in.

Background to the protest can be seen here  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2006/02/334302.html?c=on#c142859

'Safe' tree destroyed

04.03.2006 14:42

This morning a huge beech tree (one of the trees tesco said will not be destroyed) was cut through. A digger attempted to push it over, but was stopped by people locking themselves on to the digger.

The immediate area had not been cleared before they started work and a bus stop next to the tree was in line to be hit by the falling tree

Whatever happened to health and safety?? It all sounds a bit of a shambles!

So more people are urgently needed to help save the other trees that tesco say 'are not being cut down'.
