'Women Say NO To War' - US Embassy, London, March 8th
pinksistas collective | 02.03.2006 09:31 | Anti-militarism | Gender | London
In January 'Women Say NO To War' started a campaign calling for an end to the war and occupation in Iraq. The first step in the campaign is a global petition - the 'Womens Call For Peace'.
The 'Womens Call For Peace' calls for (amongst other things) all foreign troops and foreign fighters to leave Iraq; for a massive reconstruction effort; and for the full repesentation of Iraqi women in the peacemaking process.
March 8th, International Womens Day, has been called as a global day of action. Rallies, protests and vigils will be held and the 'Call' will be delivered to the UK Govt in London, the US Govt in Washington, and to US Embassies and Consulates worldwide.
Women and men from all walks of life and from over 120 different countries have so far signed the petition. Signatories include Arundhati Roy and President Hugo Chavez. Signatories from the UK include Caroline Lucas MEP, Clare Short MP, Nadje Al-Ali (founding member of Act Together: Women’s Action on Iraq), Houzan Mahmoud (Organisation for Womens Freedom in Iraq), Hilary Wainwright (Red Pepper magazine), Rose Gentle and Ann Lawrence (Military Families Against War) and Maya Evans (Justice Not Vengeance).
Please join us next Wednesday as we endeavour to deliver the 'Womens Call For Peace' to the US Embassy in London.
WOMEN SAY NO TO WAR, Wednesday March 8th, 2pm
Gather outside US Embassy, Grosvenor Square.
Everyone is welcome.
Please bring flowers, paper ‘doves’, photographs or peace messages to leave behind in memory of those killed in Iraq.
