Urgent anti-deportation protest call

Dave | 01.03.2006 22:14 | Anti-racism | Migration

You are urgently called to Nottingham Magistrates Court, 9.30am on Thursday (tomorrow) to protest the illegal deportation of a 20-year-old Afghani refugee. Ali Noori came to Britain as a minor, and has been awaiting the result of his appeal to remain here. He suffers from serious asthma. He was detained at the police station today with no prior warning to him or his solicitor which, we assert, makes the deportation illegal. Hope to see you - despite the late notice - outside the magistrates court (on canal, near train station) for a protest 9.30am-10.30am.

People will be meeting at Nottingham Train station at 9.15am

A good turnout on such short notice. 25-30 people gathered in front of the courtbuidlings (Bridewell police station) this morning to oppose the illegal deportation of Ali Noori, an Afghani refugee who had very been notified by the Home Office of their decision to deport him. Neither him nor his solicitor knew until Ali was arrested yesterday and taken to Bridewell police station. It is expected he will be moved to Oxford later today. Ali suffers from severe asthma and has only been given a small dose of the medicine he requires.

Hopefully people will continue to inform each other about Ali's situation and post latest info on Indymedia.
