Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, a devout Christian and defender of human rights, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on April 10 2003. He was rearrested by Cuban police on December 6 2002 after attempting to attend an informal meeting of civilians on human rights. He was originally charged with disorderly conduct but was later accused of being a threat to state security.
