borris | 24.02.2006 19:08 | Ecology | London | Oxford

Just come back from site...

The site consists of about 30 large trees that Tesco have an eviction order on, but there is still much more land that have no eviction order adjacent to camp with many trees, there is a building that has been squated, with a burner for cold nights. but there are many other buildings due for demollition!

People are digging in, and it would be great for people to come up if only for one day to help in the work!
there is loadsa stuff to do! and room to do it!
There has been some test drilling on sight in the last few days by tesco!

Police have done a health and safety check, climbers have been contacted by a firm called Share Force, they may not have insurance for the climber though! so this makes it ILLEGALL!

wish list:

tarp,wood,cement,vegan/vegitarian food, food for tree houses, people, people and you can never have too many people!

get down there and live in a tree!

Where this is

For those not keeping up with this news item the site of this occupation is in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. Tesco plan to build a big new supermarket in the centre of this depressed town, on the edge of the Mendip Hills, despite already having one on the outskirts. Rather than expand their existing site they wish to develop an area formerly occupied by warehouses and factories. How the new complex will aid or disadvantage the small traders in the nearby town centre is open to argument.
To find the site (only 3 miles from the Glastonbury festival site) park in Station Road at the top (south) end of the High Street and look for the blue tarp up the tree. The security contractors seem to be trying to prevent access to and from the site. Walk round and use your nous.
