20 years ago when I interviewed Marita Johansson in Sweden, a survivor of the Nazi death camps in which arms Anne Frank of typhoid had died - as she told me - I did not only want to see the tatooed number on her arm - it was there - and other facts I could check - but report honestly.
None of the people commenting on the violation of our Freedom of Speech, jailing people for their ideas as written about in the article "Are we all David Irvings now? Where's our freedom of speech?" - uses any of the many links offered as references.

But also Buckley Jr. forgets to point the reader in the right direction. Nor would I use Galileii's first name in referring to him. But that may be a matter of good manners. In the article links are used, but not to the 'indignation' article, in defense of 'freedom of speech'.*
Buckley: "We will perhaps hear many protests about what has happened under Austrian justice. The journalist cites, of course, Galileo “who is closely associated with the scientific revolution but who 373 years ago had to stand trial for what he thought, said and wrote. My whole article concerning the maltreatment of writer and historian David Irving basically defends the right we all have: the right to our own thoughts, ideas and opinions. If I want to write that the Earth is as flat as a pancake, I will. If I want to investigate and question why the Americans after 40 years and a thousandfold better technology, not have been back to the Moon, I'll research that and say what I think. If I want to question Einstein's E=MC/2 relativity or Darwin's Evolution theory, I will. And I'll put forward any questions I like concerning another 'truth' and all it's stories which I've been brought up with: the Holocaust.
When I reported on my meeting 20 years ago with Marita Johansson in Sweden, a refugee and survivor of the Nazi concentration camps, in which arms Anne Frank had died - of typhoid - as she told me, I do not only want to see the tatooed number on her arm - it was there - and other facts I can check - but also report the way I want: unabridged and not 'politically correct'. I have a lawfull right and duty to report and tell it as I see it. My readers and/or listeners do not expect opportunistic lies, nor do people you tell your opinions.
You and I by international law have the right to say what we think, and nobody may take it from us. Lest put us in jail for what we think, write or say, and have it called 'justice'. Justice for whom? It is bad enough that in many countries our votes already have been stolen by rigged electronic votings, like in the United States.

What has much more been in the making, and which I as an independent journalist and life long global correspondent for many decades have seen and experienced, is what George Bush and his cabal has been doing - the media concentration into one big bad megaphone for the war mongering PNAC cabal - a danger which already the other George warned for:

That's what cabal supporters like Buckley Jr. do: applauding the fact that anybody's right to free speech is jailed, and supporting the global genocides for the profit of this PNAC pest for humanity, with Buckley-like comments like this, explaining that jailing people because they have different ideas is 'justice':

When someone is as self-promoting and as dodgy as you can be shouldn't really use tinyurls. unfortunatley they are not. this is a problem for indymedia moderators who have to assess whether the articles are neo-Nazi or not. surely indymedia is not a freedom of speech website and that is good. i don't want to read posts that think all evil stems from a jewish conpiracy.
freedom of speech is liberal bullshit. its the kind of thing that the liberal democrats or liberty care about. most indymedia users have moved beyond this, i think. they have understood that freedom of speech has to do with power - and not democracy. and so did hitler, whose propaganda machine knew that if you get a platform you can persuade others.
antisemitism and nationalism is big in the Left - no doubt, when small reactionary "peoples" are the new heros, while a state build by Shoa survivors is deemed the root of all capitalism. This romantic form of anticapitalism together with the idea of "peoples'" and "nations'" self-determination was the very basis of hitler's national socialism.

1) A daft apprentice at my work was being socially isolated for expressing fascist views after being leafleted by the BNP at a football match. Sitting down with him for a few hours talking about race, civilisations and logic gave him the intellectual cover to rejoin his colleagues without losing face. Persuasion is preferable to isolation as it gains an ally as well as losing an enemy, and it is easy - if you can't out-argue the false arguments of fascism then you can't argue.
2) Some DA are aimed at persuasion / publicity, but where persuasion has failed then stopping fascist activity directly is the next step. Actions can be physical, devious, imaginative, hypocritical, underhanded, humiliating or whatever, as long as they are effective. That's what most posters here do.
3) As a last resort where other means have been exhausted to no effect and no other means are available, and where violence is already being employed by fascists, a minimal use of force is logical and perhaps even moral. If you are facing down the KKK or the BNP and they are taking lumps out of you then pacifism is death.
4) States only confine the weak and the weak can never practically confine the powerful except through kidnap or such ephemeral means.

I think you are over-egging the case Jean, reacting too strongly in the opposite direction. Henk for one never personally said anything about a Jewish conspiracy. I am only offended by posts that go unchallenged, or by posts that are cut senselessly. Housekeeping is necessary and universal but anarchy is a broad church and we should expect and encourage and engage with differing views and rationales. I don't support the Austrian state imprisoning Irving, but I would beat him up if I met him even if he tried to look pathetic and scared- spitting on him isn't enough, he has propagandise for the fascists. I'd personally have hung Lord Haw Haw for the same crime. Here though, for an unrelated example , that guy Raul who repeatedly posts anti-Castro propaganda for them to be 'hidden', I think a few of his posts should remain unhidden, if only so we could demolish his arguments. Being able to criticise the Cuban state is one of the things that helps separate the anarchists from the socialists.
