Peace Conference timetable

Nottingham Student Peace Movement invite everyone to a day of discussion about global political issues, and what we can do about them on a local level, this Sunday (26th Feb) at the University of Nottinham.

The Peace Conference will take place from 2pm-10pm, on C-floor in the Portland Building. The day will be divided into three sessions:-

2.15pm: The "War on Terror" Comes Home
Milan Rai (Justice Not Vengeance)
Alan Simpson (Labour Against the War)
Sam Azad (International Federation of Iranian Refugees, Nottingham & Notts Refugee Forum)
Followed by discussion on: How can we really stop terrorism? and How can we protect our civil liberties from anti-terror measures?

4.30pm: Overcoming Media Bias
Prof Richard Keeble (Professor of Journalism at Lincoln Uni, associate of Media Lens)
Dr Meryl Aldridge (Reader in Sociology of Media, Uni of Nottingham)
Nottinghamshire Indymedia (local independent media)
Followed by discussion on: How can we expose and correct media bias? and How can we develop our own media?

7.30pm: Taking Action
Black Activism - NSPM
Campaigning for Civil Liberties - CAMPACC & ID cards campaigns
The Ceasefire Workshop: Why the Media Matter - NSPM
Recycling Art & Banner Making - The Mischief Makers

9pm: Conclusion

There will also be an area for stalls publicising local campaigning and activist groups, and food provided by Veggies and the Crocus Cafe.
