Mayday and Anti-War Demonstrations
nat | 19.02.2006 15:07 | Mayday 2006
I am a final year student at Plymouth University and for my dissertation I am researching police methods when dealing with protests and demonstrations. If you attended either of these marches (or both) then I would like to hear from you! Here are some things I am trying to find out:
- How were you and your friends or companions treated by the police?
- How well do you think police and demonstrators co-operated at the event?
- Did you witness any arrests, injuries or confrontations during the event?
- What strategy do you think the police used to manage the demonstration?
- How would you describe the atmosphere of the event?
I would be very grateful for any feedback you can offer, based around these questions and any other comments you would like to make. You can give as much or as little detail as you like! Please email me at natalie.kitson@students.plymouth.ac.uk

(Reminiscent: Grumble at the "Student" copper taking all the pictures whiles pretending to be a protestor grrrr, I can still remember her ugly mug all dolled up chatting happly to her Superior on the otherside of the thin blue line.) Still, she didn't get my mug I am happy to say... and grumble at the misable copper who wouldn't let me sit down for seven hours who was quiet happy kicking my ass for no reason than wanting to sit down.
There a project for you stand under a light shower for seven hours and have some ugly mug taking photos of you from above in your face, somebody else train a Candid cam on your every movement while at the same time being push into a small area with no where to sit, drink, wet, cold, dark and grubby. At the same time anyone wanting to pee you have to do it in front of a couple of Pervy Policemen who don't help but stare and laugh. (lucky I didn't need to go!) (So don't leave the shower!)
As you leave the shower, have some cop stopping you then give you a good hitting with the old truncheon because somebody is pushing you from behind because you have been pen in for a few hours and want to go home and only to be stop again for some mug take even more pictures of you.
The very next day the Daily Newspaper kiss coppers asses and praising them for their worth and how protestors were hell bent on burning london to a plup... etc, etc. Only once you been to a protest like that you could help but notice the amount of spin that were involved.
See old indymedia articles for example of media hysteria....
