Police have launched an investigation after anti-semitic leaflets were distributed to several homes in North Manchester.
Received by both Jewish and non-Jewish households on Sheepfoot Lane last Thursday, the literature appeared to refer to the proposed extension of King David School to Heaton Park, saying: “No Jew school in Heaton Park…Supporting the campaign to defend our English park”.
It also features an illustration of a man holding a Union Jack flag and bears the name the British People’s Party, whose website currently features a piece which refers to the “so-called and much doubted Holocaust”.
One recipient said: “It was extremely distressing to receive such blatant offensive material. What was a public debate about the school has now turned into something racial,” adding that many Jewish people in the area also opposed the proposal.
The Community Security Trust’s Mark Gardner said: “Theses leaflets are worded to cause division between Jews and their neighbours and we hope the police will track down those responsible.”
Edward O’Brien, the BPP’s Deputy National Organiser, insisted the leaflets were “fake”. He said: “We don’t put out anti-semitic leaflets. We are in favour of one faith schools.”
If you have any information, call the police on 0161 872 5050.
