After many meetings with British Waterways we've been discussing the very sensible possiblity that boaters look after the yard until the planning process is seen through. We explained that it'd be a lot cheaper for them to let boaters stay on in the yard supplying coal, gas, water and 'community' than to employ an expensive security operation, costing tens of thousands of pounds, it could be a year or two until planning is granted. BW tell us they'll let us know on the 17th Feb as to whether they'll let us stay on in the yard as custodians of the site.

Castle Mill Boatyard, in Jericho, Oxford, is under threat. As the last public boatyard on the Oxford Canal, it is an indispensable resource for the local narrowboat community, in particular residential boat owners. However British Waterways wants to develop the land for luxury housing, in association with Bellway Homes Ltd.

This is the campaign to retain the Boatyard, and so save Oxford's boating community from extinction.
