PLEASE HELP HIM OUT!
Tree protester opposes store plan
Mr Carter has threatened to stay up the tree for months if necessary
An environmental campaigner is staging a tree-top protest against plans for a new Tesco store in Shepton Mallet.
Olly Carter said he would stay months, if necessary, to stop scores of trees being axed at the Station Road site.
He said: "I would like all of the trees to be kept. They are counting it all as brownfield. Where we are is greenfield that has never been developed before."
Tesco said significant time was given to discussing the replacement of the trees during the planning process.
A company statement said: "Tesco will replant more trees than are removed and the majority of these will be semi-mature and native species. This was accepted by the planning committee.
"We hope that the campaigner sees sense and comes down before he potentially hurts himself."
More campaigners were due to gather at the site on Thursday to add their voices to the protest.

The site is land to the South of Townsend, West of Station Road and East of Shepton West.
