It comes as no surprise, that an increasing number of people are viewing the on-going trial of Saddam Hussain, as a joke and are treating this circus with the contempt that it truly deserves.

The trial is being treated as a victory for the US occupation and their puppet administration in Baghdad but once again, each day is proving to be a mere deviation away from the reality, that is faced by the majority of Iraqi people.

A recent report by the Association of Psychologists of Iraq, has found that the on-going occupation, has created an environment, which has left the countries children seriously traumatised.

The report found, that there had been a dramatic increase of people seeking out psychological help for their children, with many suffering from high levels of stress, brought on by the fear of kidnapping and insecurity.

Of more than 1,000 children, who participated in the study, an estimated 92 percent were found to have “learning impediments”, brought on by the fear of guns, bullets, death and a general “fear of the US occupation.”

When you think of the resources that are being squandered, to stage the façade of any trial in Iraq, lets give some thought to the fact, that “2 million Iraqi families” are living below the poverty line and many of our war widows are being forced to separate their families and survive on hand outs.

In Baghdad alone, it has been estimated that there are about 250,000 widows, out of a population of several million and it is believed that nearly 400,000 Iraqi children, are now suffering from a condition called “wasting”, which is characterised by chronic diarrhoea and high deficiencies of protein.

At the very start of the trial, there was one article by an Iraqi journalist, who interviewed young people up and down the country and concluded, that whilst Iraqi’s continue to suffer in the way that they are, any trial of Saddam Hussain, will be nothing more than a smokescreen, to cover up the failures of both, the occupying powers and Iraqi government.
