Valentines Day protest against Death by Deregulation

A protest against government imposed death by deregulation is being held on Valentines day - this Tuesday - outside the bi-monthly meeting of the Health and Safety Commission, the government-appointed committee that sets the policy for the Health and Safety Executive.
The protest, organised by the Hazards Campaign, will take place from 9am to 10.30am on Tuesday 14th February 2006 outside the Health and Safety Executive headquarters in Rose Court at the southern end of Southwark Bridge, London. All are welcome.
An investigation by Hazards magazine recently revealed how the Health and Safety Commission and Executive are tripping over themselves to support this government's obsession with deregulation - the abolition of basic safeguards for workers in order for profits to be increased.
All independent evidence shows that a strong framework of regulation and effective enforcement is what makes workplaces safer and healthier. In the face of this evidence, the Health and Safety Commission, and the Health and Safety Executive it oversees, are knowingly putting workers' lives at risk by going along with capitalist-friendly safety cuts such as downgrading regulations that protect workers from asbestos. They'll only be stopped by workers and their families making them stop.
