Colombia Solidarity Oxford Launch!

The new Oxford Colombia Solidarity Campaign launches this Thursday 16th February.

Five hundred years after the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadores, Colombia is still not free. Social movements are under threat when they try to defend their rights to public services, land, freedom of expression and even life.

Multinationals are using the army and right-wing paramilitary groups to dicipline the country for exploitation of it's labour and natural resources. One of the largest, Coca- Cola, is at the centre of serious and well documented claims of assasination and suppression of trade unionists in its bottling plants.

In institutions and universities accross Britain, the World's biggest boycott campaigns is being fought against the soft- drink company.

The Secretary of the Colombian Solidarity Campaign, Andy Higginbottom, has recently returned from the World Social Forum in Venezuela. He will be talking about boycott and the wider context of the corporate takeover of Colombia and the implications for its people.
