Fur Demo's in Leeds

Fur is Dead | 10.02.2006 07:41 | Animal Liberation

Activists in Leeds visited various shops around the city centre who are supporting the cruel fur trade and selling products containing real furs.

First stop was Aspecto who have full length rabbit fur boots. Many people were disgusted at the store and vowed to boycott them until the fur is removed. The shop was emptied and people stopped in their doorway and turned away!

Next was Kurt Geiger, who stock rabbit fur boots and bags. Staff at stores around, as well as potential customers, were very supportive. One of the workers stood in the corner and called security. Two men arrived, claiming it was private property and asked for the demonstrators to move. They then began using force to attempt to remove protesters out or the arcade. Activists surprised them and began shouting about Kurt Geiger and animal abuse, as the guards attempted to cover the mouths of those in the demo, whilst another shouted through his walkie-talkie “Back-up! Call for police back-up urgently!” Son’t worry KG, we will be back.

Charles Clinkard is packed full of boots, trimmed with rabbit and fox fur. Staff came out surprised that the firm they worked for sold animal fur, whilst the supportive public vowed to boycott them.

Last stop was Dune, who refused to remove fur in previous years. No matter how long it takes Dune, we always win! People turned away at the doors of the store, and one member of the public even went in with a poster!

Until animal liberation!

Yorkshire Regional Fur Mobile
On Saturday 11th Feb, there will be a regional anti-fur mobile demo in Leeds as part of the Global Day of Action Against the fur trade.
Leeds has been chosen as it is the biggest city in Yorkshire and dubbed "the financial heart" of the north. There are also many shops in the city, some selling not only fur trim but archaic wracks of full fur coats!

Meet 11.00 at WHSmiths inside Leeds Train Station.

What to bring: Placards, banners and leaflets will be available, but please also bring some along if you can, along with megaphones, costumes and anything to draw attention toward the cruel fur trade attempting to creep back into shops.

is this still going ahead, or did it happen today? are the two things related?

I cannot believe the number of people who seem to be walking about with fur on them, Im not in touch with the fashion scene but think we should keep a wary eye on the catwalk as well as the high street.

NO PLATFORM FOR ANIMAL EXPLOITATION
