Listen to the Diversity of Cambridge on 209 Radio

Derek Thorne | 09.02.2006 23:58 | Cambridge

Among the various shows on 209 Cambridge Community Radio's FM week is a programme that shows the world really is on your doorstep here in Cambridge.

'So Far and Yet so Near' is a half-hour show that aims to capture global issues that take place in Cambridge - be they cultural events, talks, or the work of local organisations that are linked to other parts of the world.

And during 209 Radio's FM week, when the station will be on 103.5 FM in the Cambridge area, there will be three show to catch, each with a specific flavour of interviews and features.

On Sunday 12th February, at 6.15pm, the theme is 'voices', and presenters Hannah Higginson and Derek Thorne will be speaking to a researcher of endangered languages, a man who campaigned successfully for the world's first global ceasefire day, and they'll be counting down the top 5 unreported global stories of 2005.

On Tuesday 14th February, at 6pm, the topic will be 'love' - and for the occasion the show has lined up a live interfaith discussion. Representatives of Cambridge's faith groups will be coming in to share their perspectives on love in their respective faiths.

And on Wednesday 15th February, at 6.15pm Hannah and Derek's final show will focus on 'diversity' - and they have a diverse selection of items in the programme, including coverage of a local school's diversity day, a former finance minister of Zimbabwe talking about international development, and a live demonstration of a new board game called 'War on Terror'.

Catch all of these programmes during the FM week, or get them after the event in the archive - go to www.209radio.co.uk. And you can even get them on the Indymedia Cambridge site!
