The KHOODEELAAR campaign in defence of the Brick Lane E1 area and against the Crossrail hole has created the hottest political debate in the East End of London and beyond. The result is that sitting councillors on Tower Hamlets are now running desperate to keep their careers. They are now under pressure to tell the truth on how they let the Crossrail hole to be brought to attack the community

KHOODEELAAR! THE BRICK LANE LONDON E1 AREA CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE CROSSRAIL HOLE BILL has today put the following members of Tower Hamlets Council on notice that evidence in legal substantiation of claims they both made on a broadcast programme [26 January 2006] about their roles in opposing the Crossrail hole plan, would be demanded as part of the legal action in defence of the community that the KHOODEELAAR campaign has been preparing.

The councillors are

Cllr Akikur Rahman and
Cllr Helal Abbas

The extracts from the letter to them sent by KHOODEELAR on Saturday 4 February 2006 reads as follows,

“Dear Councillors Rahman and Abbas

You both made statements on a TV programme on a satellite TV Channel [‘Channel S’] which was broadcast on 26 January 2006 in which you both claimed, in your own ways, that both of you had supported the community’s opposition to the Crossrail hole plan/ scheme.

We have studied the contents of the rest of what you stated.

For now, we are putting this question to you both, and formally asking you to substantiate the assertions you made.

This is being put to you on legal advice.

Cllr Akikur Rahman said that he had been actively concerned about the need to let the community know for the past more than two years.

The question to Cllr Akikur Rahman on that assertion is this:

“Who did you speak to or write to or otherwise communicate with in the community ands on what date and with what result and with what evidence?

When you spoke at the meeting held at the Brady Centre on 22 January 2006, did you know that your statement would be subject to verification?

We are asking you on behalf of the KHOODEELAAR the BRICK LANE LONDON E1 AREA CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE CROSSRAIL HOLE to give us the answers to all the elements of the question here and to do so by not later than 1000 hrs on Tuesday 7 February 2006.

You must know that the recorded evidence of the Liberal Democratic Party is FOR the Crossrail plan including the hole plan and there is no evidence whatever anywhere so far that the Liberal Democratic Party on Tower Hamlets Council has supported the community in the opposition to the Crossrail hole.

Your reference to consultation is a diversionary one and given that you made that statement on a date after 22 January 2006 shows that you are less concerned about telling the truth than making a Party political point.

If we have got this factually wrong, please point to us what facts we have got wrong and we shall amend this statement. If we don’t get the evidence from you then you alone will be held responsible fro among the misleading statement that you have made on the matter in the two statements that we have referred to about your utterances.

Cllr Helal Abbas:

You claimed that the “Opposition” on the Council was not about real policy or action. We note that just for context. You said that no Labour councillor was in favour of the hole.

We are challenging you ion this on the facts.

Your entire record, as far as has been available on the public domain, is in conflict with your claim.

Your comments against the KHOODEELAAR campaigners, as reported in the EAST LONDON ADVERTISER on Thursday 28 October 2004, is also in conflict with your claim as made on Channel S as broadcast on 26 January 2006.

Do you agree or disagree?

If you agree then you must apologise to the community and withdraw the untruth ones of your statements from the two sets we have referred to here.

If you disagree then you must provide evidence in support of your continuing claim.

In either case, whatever you say will be included in evidence by KHOODEELAAR in the matter in our application to court and in our submission to the UK House of Commons and the UK House of Lords in due course.

Your only opportunity to discharge your duty to tell the truth and nothing but the truth is now and until 1000 Hrs ON Tuesday 7 February 2006.

Yours faithfully

Why doesn't Tower Hamlets Council want the public to know truth about Crossrail

05.02.2006 13:06

As a Tower Hamlets resident, I have come across the advice from the Tower Hamlets Council that we should log on to the Council’s website. Apparently, the website gives helpful advice. I am afraid I can’t agree.

The one issue I was interested in is Crossrail. When I logged on and looked for documents, the only thing I got was Tower Hamlets Councillors propaganda. I wanted the facts. I wanted to know why we are being targeted as the borough to be destroyed for Crossrail.

What is it about Tower Hamlets that Crossrail think they can do anything to us and get away with it?

Why isn’t there anything on the Tower Hamlets Council’s website about what we have to say about Crossrail?

What are these councillors? Do they think they have secret knowledge that Nature has given us since they got elected councillors, a knowledge that the rest of us do not have?

How is it that we don’t get to read any of what the public in Tower Hamlets have to say in the Council’s own free sheet?

Why is it always full of good news?

Who is discrediting the idea of good news in Tower Hamlets/

Too many likes and too many glosses on the truth about the desperate deprivation in the borough are discrediting good news in Tower Hamlets?

Will someone please stop these lies by the people who seem to be acting as a gang rather than as an elected democratic council?

Tower Hamlets Resident

KHOODEELAAR THE BRICK LANE LONDON E1 AREA CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE CROSSRAIL HOLE BILL 2006

Khoodeelaar agrees entirely with the statement in your account that long term “bonuses are fed to us as a palliative for medium term plain or downright loss”

1. This is exactly what has been done against the community in the brick lane London E1 area which now faces economic devastation, social destruction, and environmental suffocation under the assault plan contained in the crassrail hole bill which is formally being processed now by a Crossrail select committee in the uk hosue of commons.

2. The tactics of hard sell which you recount and warn against, have been used in the unjust and unnecessary importation of the Crossrail hole problems to the eats end of london by those who have been in control of the use of the powers of the london borough of tower hamlets council in the past five years, at least.

3. Khoodeelaar has been campaigning against the Crossrail hole plan for the past 25 months. In that period, we have seen the truth of what your statement represents.

4. We have asked the chief executive of tower hamlets council, Christine Gilbert, to give us the facts and the evidence that they must have used in bringing the Crossrail attack on the community. She has failed and or neglected to send us the facts and the evidence.

5. Over the past 2 years, we have asked the relevant ‘lead’ councillors dozens of questions about their role/s in the secret, unpublicised meetings on Crossrail hole plan. They have failed to give answers.

6. We have asked other questions about their unsubstantiated and mechanically repeated assertions and claims that the Crossrail hole plan would bring ‘regeneration’ to the area.

7. Neither Christine Gilbert nor any of the relevant ‘lead’ councillors on tower hamlets council has given any facts, any evidence, and any supporting statement in relation to their propaganda for the Crossrail assault on our community.

8. The khoodeelaar campaign in defence of the brick lane london e1 area continues as the controlling council group on tower hamlets has continued to refuse to tell the truth about the council’s role in bringing the Crossrail hole scheme plan dislocation to the east end of london.

Crassness of Crossrail in George's Mayfair home

06.02.2006 08:29

George Iacobescu, of all people, exposes the crassness of the Crossrail madness! He is ‘the chief executive of Canary Wharf’ one of the leading pluggers until this minute, of the crass Crossrail adventure London.

Here is how the London Daily Telegraph’s web site reported his outrage at the Crossrail assault on his neighbourhood [Sunday 5 February 2006]

Iacobescu wants Crossrail, but not in his backyard
By Edward Simpkins (Filed: 05/02/2006)
George Iacobescu, the chief executive of Canary Wharf, has submitted a personal objection to the Crossrail Bill going through Parliament.

The £13bn proposed rail link beneath London is seen as vital for the future of the Docklands office complex he manages. Last year Iacobescu signed a letter to a national newspaper welcoming the second reading of the Crossrail Bill.
The letter, which was also signed by other business leaders including Sir Digby Jones of the CBI and Michael Snyder of the City Corporation, described the proposed Heathrow to Stratford railway as a "vital project" essential to the continued economic growth of London and demanded a "strong show of support in the Commons".
Iacobescu also issued a statement through Canary Wharf expressing his hope for the bill "progressing quickly through Parliament".
However, in his objection, which calls for the bill to be withdrawn in its current form, Iacobescu complains that lorries from construction works passing close to his Mayfair home are likely to cause vibration and noise.
The objection, called a "petition", says: "Where your petitioner's homes are adversely and injuriously affected by the construction of the proposed works. . . the compensation pro-visions within the Bill are wholly inadequate."
The objection also invokes the European Convention on Human Rights, and points out that the lorry traffic could be used to mask activity by terrorists intent on attacking the nearby US Embassy.
Iacobescu said he still supported Crossrail. "It is not an objection of principle, it is purely an objection of logistics," he said.
He added that 150 trucks loaded with spoil would pass daily down a street that has been narrowed at the request of the US embassy.
He added that his objection had nothing to do with Canary Wharf and pointed out that the company had also objected to the bill in its current form. "It is a private issue, a residential issue," he said.

Would the Poplar Councillors and George Lansbury have paid Aman Dalvi as much?

Tower Hamlets Council is featuring in another embarrassing 'news' item

It has been observed during today, Saturday, 19 October 2013 that Tower Hamlets Council is again featuring in a news item over something that shows that the Council is wasting public money.

According to figures published variously on four separate web pages in the past 48 hours by Archant-owned East London Advertiser and now by the Daily Mail web site (‘Mail online’), Aman Dalvi received a payout totalling £256,000.

Here (cited below) is the DAILY MAIL web page carrying that item today (19 October 2013) which makes the point about the payout of £256,000. to Aman Dalvi.

 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2467104/Tower-Hamlets-Borough-Council-temporary-boss-paid-2-500-day--gets-ANOTHER-payout-post-axed.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

Questions that have been overdue for the Council’s truthful answer have included the payments made to individuals that have been already in paid posts in the Council.

These questions will now be even more powerfully raised because of the implication for the people in the Borough who have been receiving poorer service by the Council with the passage of each ‘working’ hour.

It is a telling irony that Aman Dalvi who is at the centre of the Daily Mail story about Tower Hamlets Council wasting public money is described as the Council’s “Corporate Director for Development and Renewal”
