MERSEYSIDE VIGIL TO MOURN THE 100th DEAD BRITISH SOLDIER IN IRAQ

Merseyside TUC | 01.02.2006 16:30 | Anti-militarism | Liverpool

Merseyside TUC is supporting the vigil to mourn the death of the 100th
British soldier to be killed in Iraq. This will take place on WEDNESDAY 1st
FEBRUARY 2006 AT 6.p.m. on the steps of ST. GOERGES HALL LIVERPOOL This event is being organised by the Merseyside Stop the War Coalition.

Merseyside TUC urges all trade unions and local Trade Union Councils to attend and bring their banners to show to the public the Trade Union Movement's condemnation of the illegal war in Iraq and their sympathy for the 100 families of those British soldiers killed in Iraq.

The President of Merseyside TUC Alec McFadden said,

"This is another human tragedy, the 100th British family to have their son killed in this illegal war. Tony Blair certainly has the blood of 100 British soldiers on his hands, together with thousands of Iraqi children, women and men, needlessly killed. The British Prime Minister took us to war two years ago, based on false information, that Iraq had "weapons of mass destruction" - and 45 minutes to launch them. These claims were all found to be untrue, but still every day Iraqi people are killed, and now the 100th
British family will be grieving over the death of their son. Is it not time that the man who lied to the British Parliament and the people to get support for the war on Iraq to now resign".

Three years ago 2,000,000 people marched in London in opposition to the then proposed war in Iraq and one of the largest delegations was from Merseyside with trains full of scousers taking part, many of whom will attend this vigil
