If, as you say, the water is turned on outside, and is not disconnected, then there must be another stopcock somewhere in the house that you have not turned on. Either that or the taps are buggerred. Or the pipes are frozen.

Don't mean to ask an obvious question...

But have you been down in the cellar? There could be a stopcock-to-rule-all-other-puny-stopcocks hiding down there. Also, could the pipe have been capped anywhere? I presume you've followed the pipe everywhere you can, but might be worth double checking. Good luck!

may be a tap under the floorboards, see where is emerging the pipe and lift some boards. you,ll find the solution. its always a little something...

I've checked all the above certain there are no other stoptaps and I've followed the pipe under the floorboards till it leaves the house- all seems in good enough nick and intact not capped or owt, which leaves frozen pipes- what if anything can i do about them?

As an anarchist, you wouldn't let someone 'expert' act as your representative on any political subject.

And as an anarchist, you wouldn't let any priest come between you and your God.

So, as an autonomous being, don't let a plumber come between you and your pipes. Learn how to fix them, and then fix them. My tip for plumbing is 'think globally but act locally. Bear in mind very few free thinkers even have plumbing.

Guess what DIY stands for ?
