URGENT: Block the Builders on Monday 30 January
JK | 26.01.2006 00:37
Tonight the West Berkshire Eastern Area Planning Committee decided not to object to the proposed laser facility at AWE Aldermaston. As promised, Block the Builders have called for a mass nonviolent blockade of the Atomic Weapons Establishment for Monday 30 January.
Between 35-40 activists and other interested people attended the meeting tonight, where the councillors were urged to refer the matter back to the Secretary of State and request a public inquiry. But the committee voted 7 to 1 (with 3 abstentions) not to object and therefore, since all the procedural ways have now been tried, we will move on to the "more direct" ways of objecting.
More bodies urgently required for creative, active and practical blockading on Monday morning!

For background info on the laser, the rest of the planned new nuclear weapons related facilities, resistance so far, legal challenges, how it is a project the same size of Heathrow's T5, and how it fits into a picture of governmental moves towards replacing/upgrading Britain's existing nuclear weapons system (Trident), visit any of the following, all have a range of info and different takes on particular aspects and do not necessarily support the blockade (posted for info purposes only - not an endorsement!):
