Jean Charles: IPCC forwards report to police -- but not to family

PigBrother | 21.01.2006 17:18 | Repression | Social Struggles

The "Independent" Police Complaints Commission has finished its report on the killing of J. C. de Menezes and are handing the report to the police and Crown Prosecution Service – but keeping it secret from the family.

Family & friends gather Sun 22th at Stockwell Tube Station to commemorate 6 month anniversary of the killing, at 10.05 am to mark the exact time Jean was killed, and at 1 pm for a public vigil.

On the 22nd July 2005, Jean Charles de Menezes was killed by police at Stockwell tube station. He was shot 8 times, 7 times in the head, using dum dum bullets. Following his death, the police mislead Jean Charles' family and the public about his death.

This Sunday is the 6 month commemoration of the death of Jean Charles De Menezes at Stockwell Tube. It looks likely, just as in every other case of the police killing innocent civilians over the last twenty years, that no-one will be brought to justice.

On the anniversary, the "Independent" Police Complaints Commission has now concluded its investigation into Jean Charles' killing and has compiled a report of its findings which was to be handed to the police and Crown Prosecution Service Fri 20th January -- but kept secret from Jean Charles' family and the public.

Despite the fact, that the IPCC were meant to keep the family up-to-date with progress in the investigation and to share with them the broad contents of their final report. Yet they have answered almost none of the families questions in previous meetings and the family now learns that they are not going to be told anything about the contents of the final report. What makes this so outrageous is that the police have been briefed what is in the report and that everyday the family has to read leaks from the report in the press.

The family continues to await the truth about his death and demands NO MORE COVER UP & JUSTICE!

The family asks that you to join them at the six-month commemoration in demanding that there is no cover up, that the IPCC report to be made public and that all those responsible for his death are brought to justice. Your presence at this vigil is vital in publicly demonstrating that the police and British government must be held to account for this brutal death and to stop others like it ever happing again.

We hope to see you there.
