Demonstrate Anything

Spark | 20.01.2006 13:15 | London

Happening in Parliament Square this Sunday 22nd Jan

[1] This Sunday, 22nd January 1pm in Parliament Square: Demonstrate Anything/Comedy

SOCPA [The Serious Organised Crime and Police Act] criminalises all ‘demonstrations’ near Parliament without Metropolitan Police approval. But it's not just evil, it's also incompetent as it neglects to define the term ‘demonstration’ anywhere.

Therefore, this Sunday our latest attempt to ridicule the SOCPA is a creative response to the lack of clarity about the term ‘demonstration.’

Come along and demonstrate whatever you want. Hopping, frisbee, juggling, good citizenship, lying down, boiling an egg, singing, whatever.

As usual there will be a picnic and a Peoples’ Commons meeting from around 1.30pm at which hot drinks and possibly soup and other nice food will shared.

On thing though: please do not bring any banners or placards or make other overtly political statements. Demonstrate Anything is an attempt to show the unworkable nature of this law through ridicule and silliness. It is NOT a traditional political demonstration.

[2] Parliament Square Police Force/Polite Farce/Please Force

We are keen to establish an official Clownesque Police Force for operations in the SOCPA zone and possibly further afield. Anyone interested in this please do come along and join in and we'll go from there..
