Day of action as Tony Blair sets out new nuclear power policy in Nottingham

Tony Blair set out new plans today for a nuclear power policy, as him and other cabinet ministers attended a Labour Party forum, at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham. The conference centre is based at Nottingham University, where students jumped into action after it was leaked to Nottinghamshire Indymedia that Tony Blair was to visit the Uni. A call out for a demonstration, meeting at 10am at the Portland Building (on Notts Uni campus) was supported by a number of local campaign groups including the Students Union, Nottingham Stop the War, Nottingham Student Peace Movement, Lenton Anarchist Forum and the arts activism collective the Mischief Makers. Also affinity group actions have been planned.

Greenpeace co-founder's ashes scattered in Antarctica

Bob Hunter, October 13, 1941 - May 2, 2005, was a journalist, an environmental activist and a co-founder of Greenpeace, being part of Greenpeace from its origins in the 'Don't Make a Wave Committee' Amchitka anti-nuclear voyage in 1969.

Today I headed up on the helicopter with Captain Paul Watson where we first went over a pod of whales that were each 50-feet long and then continued onwards to an iceberg that we later declared the Bob Hunter Iceberg.
The late Robert (Bob) Lorne Hunter was my father.

It has been just over 8 months now when he had passed away on May 2nd of 2005. One of his wishes was to have his ashes scattered at different parts of the earth. So far we have had a good friend of his spread some of his ashes in
northern Canada near the Artic in a canoeing trip - a canoeing trip he used to always attend.

Gunns defendant wins film award
by musicologist Melb IMC 12/1/06

Heidi Douglas, one of the defendants currently being sued by Gunns Ltd for campaigning for the protection of Tasmania's oldgrowth forests, has just been awarded the Katherine Knight Award in the category of Forests, at the Earthvision International Environmental Film Festival. Her inspiring film is called "Tasmania's Forests: A Global Treasure, A National Responsibility" and was produced by the Wilderness Society.

The Gunns writ has not stopped protests such as this recent demo in Hobart to save the Weld Valley.
