Simon Hughes - Blair's chosen one?

Copernicus | 13.01.2006 14:48 | Analysis

Simon Hughes is one of the very few Liberal Democrat MPs not to vote for a public enquiry into the Iraq war. Could this be the reason Blair was kind to him and destructive to Ming on Wednesday?

When William Hogg tabled his motion:

"That this House believes that there should be a select committee of seven honourable Members, being members of Her Majesty's Privy Council, to review the way in which the responsibilities of Government were discharged in relation to Iraq and all matters relevant thereto, in the period leading up to military action in that country in March 2003 and in its aftermath."

many liberal democrat MPs rushed to sign it, along with a smaller number of lab, con, and smaller parties. The number who have signewd at present stands at 114, including 51 lib dem. Menzies Campbell's signature is among them, but Simon Hughes has NOT signed.

If Hughes wants NOT to be "The Blair candidate" for liberal democrat leadership, he should sign the petition. If he doesn't, WE KNOW WHERE HE STANDS!
