Sumac Cafe in crisis

The Sumac Centre | 09.01.2006 11:01 | Animal Liberation | Culture | Free Spaces

The Sumac Cafe is in crisis, due to a shortage of volunteers. It is in danger of closing and an important meeting is planned to look at possible solutions. These might include reinventing the nature of the cafe, perhaps doing more 'special nights', such as the monthly People's Kitchen events, instead of serving the breakfasts during weekends.

The meeting will be held on Friday 13th January, 7pm at the Sumac Centre, 245 Gladstone Street, Forest Fields, Nottingham, NG7 6HX. All people with an interest in the cafe, or ideas about how it could or should be run, are most welcome.

To get involved just drop by for the monthly Cafe Volunteers meeting from 7pm, and stay on for a drink in the Social Club. General review and brainstorming session. All people with an interest in the cafe, or ideas about how it could or should be run, are most welcome.

Potential new volunteers are welcome to call John 07835 079199

I didn't know the sumac did breakfasts?!!

This is worrying news indeed. The Sumac is a fantastic free space and I'm sure there are thousands of nottingham people who would be really keen to use it more often. We just need to let people know where it is, what it's about and why they should go there. I haven't seen any sumac flyers floating about for a while, and I didn't realise that the cafe made breakfasts on weekends, I would have definitely been down for that.
It's all in the promotion, we need to invite people to check the sumac out. We really can get it back up to speed, we just need a bit of enthusiasm. COME ON!!!

Flyers available via INDYMEDIA

Anyone able to distribute flyers - I post PDF versions of Sumac monthly flyers on the Indymedia site on or around the first of each month. These can easily be printed out for display or distribution. Anyone who can help with getting them out there please contact me - I can supply bigger quantities ready printed.
The Sumac does need more promotion - flyers in Broadway, cafes, squats, windows would be a good start.
go on...give us a hand!
